The CEOs Of The Party!

St. Louis locals Dan Marsala, Mark Dayton, and Gabe Petcher are no strangers to the fast and fun times life has to offer.  From the late night skateboard sessions of their youth to the wild and Rock n Roll concert nights of their present years. They have proven to put the F-U back in FUN. If you’ve ever had the fire to last a night out with The Fuck Off And Dies and actually made it out clean of the sharpie tattoos that prove otherwise.  Congratulations on a job well done! You are an official witness to how the “CEO’s of Party” handle business.

 FOAD

In the past year, The Fuck Off And Dies have changed from a four piece to only three members. Dan Marsala (vocals/guitar), Mark Dayton (bass/vocals), and Gabe Petcher (drums/vocals) have great chemistry when playing, writing, or just partying. When the band first originated as a joke among members, writing songs that were funny and placing them onto myspace. Soon the great response received, lit the flame to get this party started on a serious level. This meant booking shows and getting down to an album, and of coarse playing and partying harder. On top of the album release for “Songs In The Key Of Fuck”, the band has spread the party spirit to the masses. Their concerts are always wild and unique and portray the raw fun of partying hard! The members always have fun when they play, and the vibes are contagious as they blur into the audience and start the party strong. Of coarse there are no rules to partying, so people have fun in many different ways. “Although there will always be the really really drunk person, the naked person, the “woooooo” yellers, the “let’s have sex on the dance floor” dancers, the “I’m going to grab the microphone and sing too” singers, the list goes on and on” says Mark. Before shows they are always coming up with more ideas to party harder. They have done everything from bringing ramps, to renting confetti cannons to shoot off during their sets.

Now that The Fuck Off And Dies have found their full-time 9 to 5’s they had to get organized, and they are known to have a very specific writing process. Dan explains, “ It starts by partying. While partying we come up with fun phrases that involve -FUCK. From there we usually laugh about them and kind of develop a melody and think of more lines that fit. Usually when the hangover subsides, I write the guitar and basic song structure to fit these lines. From there we all jam it together and drink some beers and decide the best way to play the song. So long story short, the best party writing comes from partying.” With a new album in the writing process, they are all clocking in plenty of overtime working, partying, and surrounding them with more fun, booze, and skateboarding to influence their work.

The band has had the pleasure of playing with so many rad musicians and they always love to play with friends and other party enthusiasts.  Every show is awesome in its own way, from the small hole in the walls with close friends to completely sold out clubs. FOAD’s favorite shows are filled with friends, the ones that come to see them, and the ones they make when they get there. The best times are said to come from the before and after hours of the shows. “ The other day, we played with our great friends Greek Fire. We checked in to a hotel early in the day and partied in the pool, had some beers, and skateboarded in the parking lot all before the show. And have had some crazy after parties as well that have included getting kicked out of upscale clubs, drinking in the venue parking lots, taking everyone from the show to the darkest least crowded dive bar we can find.” laughs Gabe. They have played at strip clubs and brought a skatepark and local crew of heshers to join in the fun, and even brought a PA and lights to the campgrounds of a float trip to throw a giant outdoor campfire party. So they know their grime, but nothing beats the time after a show when a fan told Gabe to slap him. When he did the guy called Gabe a pussy and pulled out his  “guitar”, and Gabe held nothing back when “smashing his guitar” in a tribute to The Who.  All three members have found the elixir of hijinks, and no it is not in Keith Richards blood like many of you may think. “ We have a song called FUC401K about how partying is a full time job, which it truly is. As in anything you do for a living and love, you have to be all in, and trust me we are all in.” and they have the bar tabs and scars to prove it. Their research proves there is no real secret at all. “When you have fun, like true this is all that matters right now fun, people can see it and it’s contagious.” Through the thick smoke and blurred haze you can see that they just found something that they really enjoy doing, and that’s Party!

Grimey Gatsby - Work Out & Health

I'm not the pro trainer in your local gym. I am someone that works 18-20 hour days - 7 days a week. Regularly skips breakfast and lunch....and works out as much as my body will allow. I have to be ready at 7am and going strong at 7pm and alert at 3am...all in the same day. This workout & info is something I have been using off and on for years. Our network of Health Guru's range from the beaches of Hollywood to the mountains of Aspen to the lacrosse fields of Baltimore...pro lacrosse players to pro football players...we have something for all of you.

STEP 1 - YOGA - keep the temple limber
Start doing YOGA 3x a week AT LEAST - this will change your attitude, your pace, your health, your wealth, and your energy. It is something that humans have used for a long time and, most importantly, it will keep your body adaptable to things that may come. It's like INSURANCE....in case your body needs to do something it isn't "used to"...IE pick up things, late night working, changing the oil....all types of things are easier when your chi is able to adapt.

Becky Schaller - Personal Trainer/ Yogini - Las Vegas Sin Player (LFL) (Hollywood, CA)
Josh Tankersley - Body Work Specialist, Yogi, Former Professional Athlete (Aspen, CO)

STEP 2 - think healthy - make good habits
Get used to making decisions that will make your day easier...

start stretching (not yoga but like gym class) when you get up in the morning and before you sleep in the evenings (or early mornings). This will keep the blood flow regular but will also give those muscles a little love. It takes 10 minutes and will go a long way.

Eat RAW food - fruits, nuts, veggies, juices --- anything you can that is not "processed by a person" RAW = from the earth = better for your body

I use Isagenix as a diet formula during the week. It helps with my fast paced, active, and never ending lifestyle....most of all - It keeps me balanced, alert, and ready for the obstacles of today.

DRINK WATER ALL DAY - EVERY DAY - RE-USE A CONTAINER TO NOT BE WASTEFUL.....please

Cut your food portions in down 30%

Stop eating after 8pm (some say 7pm but that is with a projected bed time of 11pm)

STEP 3 - RUN - burn off the fat the fastest
Running will always cut more calories than any other exercise. It takes 2/3 more biking to equal the calories burned while running. It's also better to walk/hike uphill than to bike uphill....better overall efficiency for the workout and the body (upper & lower). If you start walking for 30 minutes a day...you will see results. Same if you start running a mile and try to add a mile for every month for 5 months. Once you can run 6 miles in a day.....you are in the right direction to getting your "rock hard bod."If you don't have enough time to get in 3 miles - You can do sprints almost anywhere to kick up the heart rate.

Aurora Theatre Shooting - July 20, 2012

We, at Grimey Gatsby, would like to take a second to reflect on what happened last night in our home town of Denver, Colorado. Our thoughts are with all of the people.....it is hard to grasp the true impact of this on our community. People are scared, others are angry, and millions around the globe are sad. We are going to keep your informed on our Facebook page with information from the local area. We also would ask you to send your thoughts, prayers, ital vibes, and positive energy to the victims of this tragedy. It is a sad day in Denver.......some are dead, some are critical, kids are in hospitals, and families have lost people already.

If you are in Denver, please take a second to donate blood, hug your loved ones, and stay strong. We will prevail and we will unite.

Now more than ever, we need LOVE. Unity, Peace, and Love....spread it, embrace it, and be it. We can always take a second to make some one's day better. We can all take a positive proactive approach to what we do. This sad day has brought many together. We have people on our staff that were directly effected...and others that were "supposed to be" in the theatre last night.

Tommy and Buckley Omega

Surrounding themselves with the art, music, tattoo, snow, and skateboard cultures they know and love; Buckley Omega  is filled with fun loving, and street wise supporters at all of their events. With a keen eye on the fashion around them, Their work is thread from the friends, music, art, and the beautiful Mile High City they love. Simplicity guides them through the art, design, and beauty they find in everything they see. The start of Buckley Omega was highly influenced by the mesh of Mike Giant, Rebel 8, and the inspiring Johnny Cupcakes story. The works of many Denver brands such as, DVLP, Akomplice and the people behind them have come as a great push as well. Buckley Omega isn't afraid to push the limits. They find inspiration from anyone staring fear in the eyes and pushing the limits with them. Flirting with the lines of good and evil we find deep inside us all, Buckley Omega says "Hail to the trouble makers, but good always wins in the end."

In the past year owner Tommy has made many changes, all of which have only bettered Buckley Omega's brand and products. Consumed by a growing knowledge that continues to build even better designs. Made In Denver - Budweiser presents...

As part of their "Made In...." party series, Budweiser filled the Filmore Auditorium on Tuesday night with music, an interactive multi-media extravaganza and (of course) lots of beer! The party was free for Budweiser Facebook fans who registered online.  The parties are being held across the country in lead up to the Made In America Festival that will be held in Philadelphia Labor Day weekend.

After passing through the Ipad guest list check, all guests signed into their Facebook accounts and were given a RF (radio frequency) enabled wristband that linked their party antics to their Facebook accounts. The Gatsby kept lookin' around for Neo, 'cause getting into this party felt like entering the Matrix.

After the social media gauntlet, guests were handed a cold Budweiser and then entered the next segment of the party.  Funneling into the main area of the venue was an entryway that felt a lil' bit like Junior Prom. There was a "paparazzi" area (and a scanning of your wristband, which posted your entrance to the party to Facebook....seriously, when's Keanu gonna pop out in a trench coat?) where some kids hammed it up, showing off on a live feed to a giant screen in the main venue. There was also the fountain of fog you had to walk through...totally high school dance.  Of course, your high school probably didn't let a beer company project it's ads at your prom (that wall of fog was also a projection screen....made us feel like we we walking into a Bud advertisment).

Once inside, guests chowed on free food, picked up iron-transfer tshirts and posed for glamour shots at the photo booth.  Elsewhere, they could track their beer's journey from the brewery to their hand (using Bud's signature "born on date" or sample Bud's new small batches, debuting for the first time in Colorado. There were six different brews, including batches from Fort Collins, LA, and Virginia (mmm...cured in Bourbon barrels).  After sampling, guests were asked to vote for their favorites using an Ipad survey. The most popular brew after the "Made In..." tour wraps this fall will become the newest Budweiser product to hit the shelves for the public.

The author & a friend "Keep it Gatsby"

The party couldn't possibly be dubbed "Made In Denver" without some serious local electronic acts on stage.  No disappointments there.  Fisk came with his standard swagger, including his trademark sample  reminding the crowd that it's all happening "out in Denver, Colorado". Elm and Oak founder Raw Russ dropped hard beats and sampled some radio hits ("Somebody that I Used to Know" by Gotye, yea Raw Russ can still make that gangsta) to get the dance floor movin'.  Headliners Flosstradamus  are out of Chicago; another city known for its EDM scene. Producers J2K and Autobot have been playing together since 2006 and their sound has evolved into a "hood symphony." They brought their own blend of bass music, trap and club banger remixes to the Filmore and Denver was definitely showin' the love.
