Bloodshot records signs Luke Winslow-King
This Michigan native transplanted to New Orleans in 2001. A decade in the Big Easy seasoned LWK with experience amongst local musicians and his weekly gigs on Frenchman street honed his chops and helped him earn a reputation as a talented and earnest young Traditionalist. Winslow-King even spent good time busking on Royal Street...his style is a reflection of that experience and it's effect on a midwestern fella. His rustic and elegant sound eases through a variety of styles from delta-folk to ragtime. A mix of classic American Standards and original songs give Winslow-King a balanced repertoire that keeps current while maintaining and honoring his musical roots.
Winslow-King most often travels and performs with singer/washboard-player/sweatheart Eshter Rose and bassist Cassidy Holden. The group's dynamic performances produce an original yet familiar sound. With the growing folk revival and trend towards an older more down home feel in music (see: Mumford &Sons, The Lumineers, The Avett Brothers, etc) Winslow-King's authentic sound is sure to please. It's comforting in a way you can't explain. Following his time in New Orleans, the artist worked as a music therapist in New York City. His soulful compositions and velvety voice sure could soothe. In a time of uncertainty, there is something appealing to audiences about a sound that hearkens back to a bygone era. The blues still resonate, and Luke Winslow-King knows how to deliver them.
Picking up on the artist's timeless appeal, Chicago label Bloodshot Records signed Winslow-King in November. Look for Luke Winslow-King's Bloodshot Records debut, The Coming Tide, in March 2013. In the meantime you can find info on this, and his independently released efforts, here
