Toubab Krewe was formed in 2005 in Ashville, North Carolina
and is made up of five members, Justin Perkins, Vic Stafford, Drew Heller,
David Pranksy, and Luke Quaranta. In the West African dialect Toubab means
foreigner and Krewe is the New Orleans spelling of crew. The band uses unique
West African sounds that blend with traditional rock that make for sound truly
their own. They fuse the music of Mali, which derived from a West African
tribe. The band has a sound that will captivate you and give you a sense of happiness.
Toubab Krewe uses unordinary instruments such as the kora, which is a 21-string harp-lute, the soku which is a Mila fiddle, and African drums. Toubab Krewe has played at several festivals in the United States including Bonnaroo, Wakarusa, Electric Forest (Rothbury), and the High Sierra Music Festival. They have also played at All Good and Bear Creek Music Festivals. This band is destined to do big things. They are hosting their own festival this January in Asheville, NC.
